How a kitchen is made

The Marrickville kitchen at the top of this page, from first visit to last tap. A joiner pencils a triangle across a set of parts so they go back together in order. Here it does the same for the stages.

  1. Hana, at your place

    Measure and design

We measure, listen and draw it up. The measure and the first drawing are free. Renders are marked as renders, and we change the drawing until it’s right.

  2. You, then Jae

    Sign off, then check measure

You approve the drawing and a fixed, itemised quote. Jae measures again before a single board is cut.

  3. Jae and the workshop

    Made in St Peters

Cut, edged and assembled on our own bench, with Blum or Hettich drawers and hinges. Come and see yours being made.

  4. Jae and Luke

Old kitchen out, new one in

The same two people from first day to last. We take the old kitchen away and clean up every afternoon.

  5. Our stonemason and licensed trades

    Benchtop and connections

The top is templated once the cabinets are in. A licensed plumber connects the sink and dishwasher, a licensed electrician the oven and power, and a licensed gasfitter the cooktop. We book them; each signs off their own work.

Benchtops we can supply

  • Natural stone
  • Solid timber
  • Laminate
  • Stainless steel
  • Porcelain with no resin

We don’t supply, install or refit engineered stone. It’s banned in Australia. If your old kitchen has an engineered stone top, we’ll talk you through taking it out and what can replace it.

What recent jobs came to

Every job is drawn and priced on its own, so here are three real totals and what was in them.

What moves the price

Your quote is fixed and itemised: cabinets, doors, hardware, benchtop, removal, installation and the trades, line by line.

Deposit and progress payments are as NSW home building law sets them, and Home Building Compensation cover is arranged before any deposit where the law needs it.

Hana redrew our kitchen four times and never once made us feel like a pain. Jae and Luke cleaned up every afternoon, which with a toddler in the house mattered. The drawers are so good.

Went to the workshop on a saturday to look at door samples and ended up staying an hour. Robe is great, really solid. Final bill was exactly the quote.

Only a small laundry but they treated it like a proper job. Cupboard fits around the old pipes perfectly. We’ll be back for the kitchen.

Questions

How long does a kitchen take?

It goes design, sign-off, check measure, making, install, then the benchtop and the trades. We give you dates once the drawing is signed off, and tell you which days you’ll be without a sink.

Do you do the plumbing and electrical?

We book them and they’re in your quote, but the work is done by a licensed plumber, a licensed electrician and, for a gas cooktop, a licensed gasfitter, each signing off their own work.

Can I have a stone benchtop?

Yes, natural stone such as marble, granite or travertine, or porcelain with no resin. Engineered stone is banned in Australia, so we don’t supply or install it, and we can’t refit an old engineered stone top on new cabinets.

How much is the deposit?

Deposits and progress payments follow NSW home building law, and each payment is tied to a stage in your contract. Home Building Compensation cover is arranged before any deposit where the law needs it.

Do you charge for the measure?

No. The measure and the first drawing are free. You only pay once you sign off a quote.

Can you work to my designer’s or builder’s drawings?

Yes. We draw shop drawings from theirs, they sign them off, and we credit the designer when we show the job.

What happens to my old kitchen?

We take it out and away. An old engineered stone top is removed with the controls the safety rules require.

Start with a free measure.

Tell us the room and the suburb. Hana calls you back the same working day.
