Tavita and Dean built our pergola off the back of the house. Quote came 2 days after they measured, they turned up when they said and cleaned up every arvo. Would use again

Pergola, spotted gum

3 doors that wouldnt shut properly since our reno. Dean came out on a Saturday morning, planed and rehung them and sorted the sticky slider too. Charged what he said on the phone.

Doors, small job

Tavita showed us the rot in the stair stringers with a screwdriver before he quoted, which I appreciated. New stairs look great. Took about 5 weeks to get a start date but worth the wait.

How a job runs

From your photos to the last offcut gone, the same two of us.

Tavita’s hand holding a flat carpenter’s pencil at the point of a crow’s foot: a pencil V whose point sits on a squared line across a pine board, a small X on the waste side, and a speed square beside it.
A crow’s foot. The point of the V sits on the cut line, and the X marks the side that comes off.

What it costs

Totals from recent jobs, so you know if you’re in the right range before we come out.

Small jobs and repairs$195

That’s the call-out with the first hour on site and travel inside our area, as one total. After that it’s $95 an hour, and we tell you before we go past two.

All totals include GST. Yours is a fixed written quote after we measure.

What moves the price

  • Size, and how high it sits off the ground
  • The timber you choose
  • Access: a steep block or no side gate adds time
  • Pulling out and taking away the old one

Not in our price

  • Council or certifier fees, if your job needs approval
  • Lights and power points: we bring in a licensed electrician and pass on their quote
  • Asbestos: we stop and a licensed assessor takes over

Questions

Do you do small jobs?

Yes. A sticking door, a loose step, a few rotten boards. It’s $195 for the call-out and first hour, then $95 an hour. We group small jobs into Friday afternoons, so you might wait a week or two.

How much is a deck?

Our last 20 square metre spotted gum deck at knee height came to $19,640 including GST. Height, timber, access and balustrades move it most. We give you a fixed price after we measure.

Do I need council approval?

It depends on your block and what you’re building. Some decks and pergolas don’t need approval and some do. We check the rules for your block before we quote, and if you need a certifier we work with one.

Which timber should I choose?

We mostly use spotted gum for decks, stairs and pergolas, and blackbutt for floors. Merbau is cheaper but stains paving for the first few months. Frames are H3 treated pine above the ground, posts are H4 or sit on steel stirrups. Composite boards if you’d rather never oil.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. NSW contractor licence 555012C, carpentry, held by Lintel & Sill Carpentry Pty Ltd. Public liability insurance, and home warranty insurance where the law requires it, arranged before any deposit.

How soon can you start?

Measures happen within the week. Projects usually start four to six weeks after you say yes, and hardwood orders can add two weeks. We give you a date in writing.

Can you fix my old deck, or does it need replacing?

We check the posts, bearers, joists and fixings first. If the frame is sound, new boards or stairs are often enough. If it isn’t, we show you why before we quote a rebuild.

What if you find asbestos or rot behind a wall?

We stop and show you. Rot we can fix, and any change to the price is agreed in writing first. Anything that might be asbestos is tested and removed by a licensed remover, not us.
