The research behind chiropractic care is strongest for ongoing low back pain. For neck pain and for headaches it is weaker and less certain. We will tell you what the evidence says about your particular problem, including the times it points somewhere other than here.
Your first visit
What actually happens when you come in
Nobody gets treated before we understand the problem. Here is the order it goes in.
1
History and assessment, 45 minutes
We ask what happened, what makes it worse, what you have already tried, and what you need to get back to. Then we test how you move. No treatment yet.
2
Your options, explained
We tell you what we think is going on and what could help. That includes low-force techniques with no twisting and no cracking, joint mobilisation, soft tissue work and exercise you can do at home.
3
The benefits and the risks
We go through what the treatment is likely to do, what it might not do, and what the known risks are. Then you decide, not us.
4
If we are not the right fit, we say so
Some problems belong with your GP, a physio, or an imaging referral. We would rather send you to the right person than keep you here.
The drop-piece table does most of the low-force work. It is also the quietest thing in the room.
The questions people actually have
Do I have to be cracked?
No. Plenty of our patients never have a manual adjustment at all. There are low-force options, including a drop-piece table, an instrument that delivers a small controlled push, gentle joint mobilisation and hands-on soft tissue work.
Tell us at the start if the noise is the part you dread. We will plan around it.
What about neck adjustment and stroke?
It is a fair question and we would rather you asked it. Serious complications after neck treatment are rare, but they have been reported, and the research has not fully settled how the risk works.
So we go through what is known with you before anything happens, we ask about your history and medications, and neck adjustment is always optional here. Neck pain can be treated other ways.
Will I be signed up to months of visits?
No. You pay per visit. We do not sell packages or prepaid plans, and we do not ask you to commit to a block of appointments up front.
We re-assess as we go. If you are not improving we change the plan or refer you on, and when you no longer need to come in we will tell you.
Do I need a referral?
Not to see us. You only need a referral if you want to claim through Medicare, DVA, workers compensation or a CTP claim after a car accident.
What should I wear?
Something you can move in. We need to watch you bend and turn, so office clothes make that harder. There is a change room if you have come straight from work.

Willoughby Road is metered and busy. There are two hours free in the Crows Nest Plaza car park on Clarke Street, a three minute walk. We are 600m from St Leonards station, and the 265 and 273 buses stop on Willoughby Road.
