For fun, exams or performing

What each path asks of your family.

For fun Learn to dance and enjoy it. No exams, no concert, and parents watch the last class of term.

Asks: one class a week and the term fee.

Exams Ballet on the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus. Sitting exams is your choice each year.

Asks: steady attendance, two free coaching classes before exams, and the exam entry fee if you enter, passed on at cost. We tell you the amount first.

Performing The class learns a dance for the end of year concert. Performing in it is still your choice.

Asks: if your child performs, a costume, tickets for anyone watching and three rehearsals, all listed below.

Moving between paths: switch at the end of any term, or add a class on another path. Zara suggests a move when a child is ready; you decide.

How a trial class works

One class, $15, in the class you'd actually join.

  1. Book it here

Pick the class and a date. That's the whole booking. Pay the $15 at the desk on the day.

  2. Wear anything easy to move in

No uniform for a trial. Hair tied back, a water bottle, bare feet or socks for ballet, jazz and contemporary, clean sneakers for hip hop.

  3. Arrive ten minutes early

We'll meet your child at the door and take them in. You can watch from the waiting room window.

  4. Then decide

Join that term and the $15 comes off the term fee. If it's not for you, that's the end of it. We won't chase you.

Fees, one total a term

45-minute classTiny Steps, junior ballet, jazz and hip hop
$165a term
60-minute classOlder classes and the adult class
$195a term

That's everything you have to pay. No enrolment fee, no levy, no admin charge.

A term follows the SA school term, usually ten weeks. Join partway through and you pay only for the classes left. Pay by card or bank transfer, upfront or in two halves.

Uniform, bought separately

  • Ballet: studio leotard ($48 at the desk), pink tights and ballet shoes.
  • Jazz and contemporary: black leggings and a fitted top. Jazz shoes once settled in.
  • Hip hop, adults and Tiny Steps: comfortable clothes, clean sneakers for hip hop.

What the concert adds

The end of year concert is for Performing classes, and it's optional. These costs sit apart from term fees, and only apply if your child performs.

Costume
About $75
Per class your child performs in. Made for the dance, yours to keep.
Tickets
$25
Each, for anyone coming to watch. Performers don't need one.
Extra rehearsals
No charge
Two Saturday afternoon rehearsals at the studio and a dress rehearsal at the theatre.
Concert levy
None

If your child doesn't perform, none of this applies. They keep learning the dance in class with everyone else, and you pay the term fee only. We ask at the start of the concert term and give you the full list in writing first.

RAD Registered Teacher

  • Ines KovacJazz and contemporary. Diploma of Dance Teaching and Management. No exam syllabus held.
  • Rory TranHip hop and the adult class. No syllabus held; his classes don't sit exams.

Working with Children Checks. Every teacher holds a current South Australian Working with Children Check, and so does Zara as the owner. It's a screening, not a teaching qualification. Teachers correct with words first and ask before adjusting a position by hand.

The studio floor. A sprung timber floor, a full mirror wall we can curtain off, barres at two heights and a window from the waiting room.

Questions families ask

Which class should we choose?

Go by age first, then experience. Ballet grades are levels, not school years, so a 9 year old new to ballet starts in a beginner class. If you're unsure, book the trial in the class that fits their age and Zara will move them if another suits better.

Do we have to perform or sit exams?

No. Exams are a choice each year in Exams classes, and the concert is a choice in Performing classes. Saying no to either doesn't change your child's place or their class.

What if we miss a class or want to stop?

Make up a missed class in any class at the same level that term. To stop, tell us before the next term starts and you won't be charged for it. Fees for a term already started aren't refunded after week two, unless illness or injury stops your child dancing.

How do you keep children safe?

Checks for every teacher, two adults in the building whenever children are here, and children handed back to the adult who dropped them off. We only photograph or film students with a parent's written permission, and the photos on this site are shown with it. Our child safe policy is at the desk and we'll email it on request. Zara is the child safety contact; if your concern is about Zara, speak to Ines.

Can you support our access needs?

The entrance is step free, there's an accessible toilet, and a support person can join the class at no charge. Ring Zara to talk through anything else privately before a trial.

Is the adult class really for beginners?

Yes. Wednesday nights, 18 and over, jazz and hip hop basics with Rory. No experience, no exams and no concert. Try it for $15.
