Broken, cracked or loose?

You don’t need to be one of our patients. Call first and we’ll tell you when to come in.

It’s broken, or a tooth came off

Nick repairs it here in the lab, so you’re not waiting on a courier. Some breaks take longer; he’ll tell you when he’s seen it, before any work starts.

It’s loose, rubbing or sore

Book a check. A sore spot can often be eased at the same visit. If it’s loose, Nick will tell you whether a reline will fix it or it’s time for a new one, and why.

What to bring

  • Your denture and every broken piece, in a container.
  • Please don’t glue it at home. Glue makes it harder to fix.
  • Your health fund card, if you have one.

Swelling, bleeding or pain that isn’t from the denture? See your dentist or GP. If it’s severe, or you’re having trouble breathing or swallowing, call 000.

New dentures

Come in for a consult. Nick looks at your mouth and your old denture, talks through what will suit you, and gives you a written quote.

  • Full dentures

An upper, a lower or both, when all the teeth in that jaw are gone.

  • Partial dentures

To fill the gaps between the teeth you still have. In acrylic, or on a lighter metal (chrome) frame.

  • Immediate dentures

Made before your dentist takes the teeth out, and fitted that day. Your gums change as they heal, so it will need adjusting after.

  • Dentures on implants

A denture that clips onto implants. Your dentist or a specialist places the implants; Nick makes and fits the denture.

How long it takes

Every step happens here, with Nick, so the days are easy to plan around.

Nick holds up a hand mirror and smiles as a woman in the chair laughs at her new teeth.
Try-in day: the teeth are set in wax, so you see them in the mirror while they can still be changed.

Nick Papadopoulos

Dental Prosthetist

Nick sees you at every visit and makes your denture at the bench out the back. When something needs changing at the try-in, the person who hears it is the person who changes it.

He’s registered with the Dental Board of Australia as a dental prosthetist, so you can come straight to him without a referral. Nick speaks Greek (Ελληνικά).

Carla Benedetti

Practice coordinator

Answers the phone, books your visits and writes up your quote. Booking for a parent? Carla is the one to talk to.

Who does what

Nick doesn’t take out teeth or place implants. That’s your dentist’s work. When you need both, we work with your dentist on the dates, and Nick makes and fits the denture.

A dental prosthetist isn’t a prosthodontist, who is a dentist with specialist training. You can check anyone’s registration on the public register.

Questions

Do I need a referral?

No. You can come straight to a dental prosthetist for dentures. If you also need teeth out or implants, that part is with your dentist, and we’ll work with them.

Can you fix my denture today?

Usually, for a simple crack, break or a tooth that’s come off. Call first, bring it in by 10am with every piece, and it’s usually ready by 3pm.

Some breaks need longer, or a new impression. Nick will tell you when he’s seen it, and what it will cost, before he starts.

How much will my denture cost?

It depends on whether you need an upper, a lower, both, or a partial, and what it’s made of. Our prices are set out that way. After your consult you get a written quote with everything in it.

Will my health fund, Medicare or DVA pay?

Medicare doesn’t cover dentures for most adults. Extras cover from a health fund may pay part; take our itemised quote to your fund and they’ll tell you how much.

For veterans, it depends on your card and what you need. Ask us before you book and we’ll check.

Can I have dentures the day my teeth come out?

Yes, with immediate dentures. We take impressions before your dentist removes the teeth, and you wear the denture home that day. Your gums change shape as they heal, so it will need adjusting and, later, a reline.

Can you reline my loose denture instead of making a new one?

Often, if the teeth on it are in good shape. Nick needs to see the denture and your mouth to say. If a reline won’t fix it, he’ll tell you why before you spend anything.

Can I book for my mum or dad?

Yes. Call Carla, or tick “I’m booking for someone else” when you book. We’ll check with them that they’re happy for us to talk to you about their care. You’re welcome to come in with them.

We don’t do home or nursing home visits; every appointment is at the studio.

What if my new denture rubs or feels strange?

That’s common in the first weeks, and it’s what the check a week later is for. If it rubs before then, call and we’ll find you a time to ease it. Don’t try to file it down yourself.

What’s the difference between a dental prosthetist and a prosthodontist?

A dental prosthetist, like Nick, makes, fits and repairs dentures, and you can see one without a referral. A prosthodontist is a dentist with specialist training in replacing teeth. They’re different registrations with the Dental Board of Australia.
