No referral needed to see us privately. You only need your GP for Medicare to help.

With a GP care plan

If your GP makes a chronic condition management plan and refers you to us, Medicare pays part of each visit back, if you and the visit qualify.

Our fee$180$110

Medicare then pays part of it back. It’s a set amount for each visit, the same for a first appointment or a review, and you pay the rest. Medicare changes the amount from time to time, so we’ll tell you the current figure when you book.

Most people can use up to five visits a year, shared with other allied health on the plan, like physio. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients can use up to ten.

With an eating disorder plan

An eating disorder treatment and management plan can cover up to 20 dietitian sessions in the 12 months from the plan’s date. You’ll need a valid referral, and we’ll tell you what you’ll pay before you book.

Using DVA, NDIS or Support at Home funding? Call Jo and she’ll check what your plan covers before you book.

We talk about meals, not kilos.

Sara and a client laughing as they read the label on a cereal box in a supermarket aisle.
Some of Sara’s best appointments happen in the cereal aisle.
  • We start with what you eat now. Nothing about it gets judged.
  • Foods come off only for a reason, and we plan how they come back.
  • Scales are your choice. If weighing helps your care, we’ll say why and ask first.
  • Your plan fits your week: your shopping, cooking, culture and budget.

If eating has got hard, we go gently.

Mai works with eating disorders and disordered eating as one part of your team, alongside your GP and psychologist. You set the pace.

  • No food rules, and no good or bad foods.
  • Weighing only if your team needs it, and you don’t have to see the number.
  • Teenagers are seen with family involved, the way your team plans it.
  • Not sure it’s an eating disorder? You can still talk to us.

With an eating disorder plan from your doctor, Medicare helps pay for sessions. How the plan works

Questions people ask Jo

Do I need a referral?

Not to see us privately: you can book yourself. For Medicare to help with the cost, you’ll need a plan and referral from your GP first.

Will I be weighed?

Only if it helps your care, and only with your OK. We’ll tell you why first, and you can choose not to see the number. Plenty of appointments never involve scales.

Will I get a meal plan?

You’ll get a written plan built from food you already eat. If set meal ideas would help, we’ll write them with you. We don’t hand out diet sheets.

Can I use Medicare or my health fund?

Medicare helps with a GP chronic condition management plan or an eating disorder plan. Your fund may pay part of a private visit, depending on your extras cover. You can claim one or the other for a visit, not both. See how it works

Do you see children?

Yes. Mai sees children from age 2 and teenagers, always with a parent or carer involved. Parents are welcome to come to the first appointment on their own.

Can I do it by video?

Yes, first appointments and reviews. You need a phone or laptop with a camera and somewhere private. A support person can join the call.

What if I need to cancel?

Call or email at least 24 hours ahead and there’s no charge. With less notice we charge $40, unless you’re unwell.

Pull up a chair.

Book a first appointment, or ask Jo to call you if you’d like to talk it through first.
