What do you want back?

Assessed, planned and supervised exercise for long-term conditions, injury, pain and getting older.

Call

With Tama Ngata or Ellie Brennan, Accredited Exercise Physiologists. 60 minutes, $140. Fees and Medicare

Where each step leads

Everyone starts with an assessment. What you want back decides what we work on.

Strength and balance, to stay independent

Leg strength, balance and confidence for stairs, kerbs and the bus step, in the room and at home.

For you if you feel less steady than you did, or you’re worried about a fall.

Exercise for long-term health conditions

Type 2 diabetes, heart and lung conditions, and other long-term conditions. Exercise planned around your condition and your GP’s advice.

For you if your GP has said “more exercise” and you want to know what, and how much.

Back to it after an injury or surgery

Strength for lifting, carrying and work, built up after we’ve assessed you and in step with your surgeon or physio.

For you if the treatment is done but everyday jobs still feel hard.

Strength and movement for persistent pain

We start where you are, at a pace you can trust, and build from there.

For you if pain has hung around and you’ve started avoiding things.

We also see people working on disability-related goals, including with NDIS funding.

Not a gym. A program, in four steps.

No membership and no packages. Here’s how a program is built.

  1. Assess

We ask what you want back, go through your health and your GP’s notes, and look at how you move.

  2. Prescribe

We write a program for your goal and your condition: what to do, how much, and how you’ll know it’s working.

  3. Supervise

We coach you through it in the room, adjust it as you go, and build it up when you’re ready.

  4. Review

Every few weeks we repeat the same measures, show you what’s changed and change the plan. If your GP referred you, we write to them.

With us, in the room

One on one with your EP, who watches, corrects and moves you on.

30 minutes, $100

On your own, at home

A written home program with pictures, built from what you do with us. We check it at every review. You won’t need a gym, and over time you’ll need us less.

Different from a personal trainer. An Accredited Exercise Physiologist is an allied health professional who assesses you and prescribes exercise for health conditions, injury and pain.

Your first session

60 minutes$140Carers welcome
  1. We talk

Your health, your medicines, what’s getting in the way and what you want back.

  2. We look at how you move

Only what suits you and your goal, like getting up from a chair, a short walk or a balance check.

  3. We make a plan

You leave with your first exercises written down, a plan for the next few weeks, and a letter to your GP if they referred you.

Wear

  • Clothes you can move in
  • Shoes you walk in every day

Bring

  • Your GP referral or plan, if you have one
  • A list of your medicines
  • Any letters or scans

How we measure progress

We choose a few simple measures tied to your goal and repeat them at each review, so you can see what’s changing. We’ll show you the numbers; we won’t promise them.

What it costs, and who can help pay

Our fees
VisitOur fee
First assessment60 minutes$140
Review or session30 minutes$100

With a GP plan, Medicare pays part of it back. It’s a set amount for each visit, the same for an assessment or a session, and you pay the rest. The amount changes from time to time, so we’ll tell you what it is now when you book.

That applies only if you’re eligible under a GP chronic condition management plan and have services left on it. Without one, you pay our fee. No card surcharges.

Medicare, with a GP planUp to five allied health visits a year, shared.

If your GP has made or reviewed a GP chronic condition management plan for you in the last 18 months, Medicare pays a set benefit for each eligible exercise physiology visit of at least 20 minutes. We’ll tell you the current amount when you book.

It’s up to five allied health visits each calendar year in total, shared across everyone on your plan (a podiatrist, say).

Type 2 diabetes groupA separate Medicare pathway for groups.

It doesn’t use your five individual visits. How the diabetes group works.

DVAWith a Veteran Card and a referral.

DVA can pay for exercise physiology you clinically need, with an eligible Veteran Card and a valid referral. A referral lasts for up to 12 sessions or a year, whichever ends first; if you still need it, your doctor can refer you again.

With a TPI Veteran Card, the 12-session cycle doesn’t apply to exercise physiology, but you still need a referral.

NDISWe check it fits your plan before we start.

Tell us how your plan is managed. We check that exercise physiology fits your plan and goals, then agree a service agreement with you before the first session.

Our NDIS rates are in that agreement and sit at or under the NDIS price limit for exercise physiology. Travel for home visits is charged separately, and we tell you before we come.

Private health extrasDepends on your policy.

Some extras policies pay a benefit for exercise physiology. Ask your fund what yours pays and what you have left this year.

Workers compensation or CTPCall us before you book.

Each scheme has its own approval steps and fees. Call us with your claim details and we’ll explain what happens next.

We can’t tell you you’re eligible for funding before we’ve checked. We’ll always tell you what you’ll pay before you pay it.

Accredited Exercise Physiologist AES AEP

Ellie works with people coming back from injury or surgery and people living with persistent pain. She runs the Strong and steady groups.

Accredited by ESSA. Exercise physiologists are accredited by Exercise & Sports Science Australia, not registered with Ahpra. You can check an exercise professional with ESSA.

An exercise scientist is different. An Accredited Exercise Scientist (AES) holds a different accreditation. If you’re using Medicare, DVA or NDIS funding, you see one of our AEPs.

Groups, and which ones count

Only one of our groups is a Medicare group. We say which is which.

Questions people ask us

What is an exercise physiologist?

An allied health professional who assesses you and prescribes exercise for health conditions, injury, pain and disability. Physios use exercise too; for an EP, exercise is the whole treatment.

Do I need a referral?

Not if you’re paying yourself: anyone can book. For Medicare you need a GP plan, for DVA a referral, and for NDIS exercise physiology in your plan. Bring the paperwork, or ask your GP to email it to us.

What will the first appointment cost?

$140 for 60 minutes, paid on the day. If you’re eligible under a GP plan, Medicare pays part of that back and you pay the rest.

Can’t make it? Please give us 24 hours’ notice. A first assessment cancelled later than that is $50.

What happens at the first appointment?

We talk, we look at how you move, and we make a plan. The first session, step by step.

Can I use my NDIS funding?

Often, but we check first. Tell us how your plan is managed and what your goals are, and we’ll confirm before we book, with a service agreement that lists our rates and any travel.

Do I need to be fit, or join a gym?

No to both. We start from where you are today, including if standing for long is hard. There’s no membership, and your home program uses what you have at home.

Can I bring a carer, or have a home visit?

Yes. Carers and family are welcome in every session. Home visits are within about 5km of the clinic, booked ahead, and we quote travel before we come.

How many appointments will I need?

It depends on your goal and how you go. We decide together at each review. What your funding allows and what you need aren’t always the same, and we’ll tell you honestly.

We’re not an emergency service. Chest pain, a bad fall or trouble breathing? Call 000. We answer messages within one business day.

Tell us what you want back.

A first assessment is 60 minutes, $140, with Tama or Ellie.
