Making a claim

Call us first. We lodge it with you, and stay with you until it’s decided.

  1. Make it safe

Stop further damage if you can. Take photos before anything is cleaned up.

  2. Tell us

Call and ask for Shona, or start it online.

  3. We lodge it with your insurer

We send them what they need and give you the claim number.

  4. Your insurer decides

They assess the claim and decide what the policy covers. We can’t approve or pay a claim.

  5. We stay with you

We chase updates, explain the letters, and help you ask for a review if you disagree.

Urgent, and we’re closed?Call your insurer’s claims line. The number is on your policy schedule. Then let us know the next business day and we’ll take it from there.

Call about a claim

Handy to have when you call

  • Business name or policy number
  • When and where it happened
  • Photos of the damage
  • Quotes, receipts, or a police report number

Need a certificate of currency?

For a builder, council, landlord or site that wants proof of your cover. Ask here. It isn’t a quote form.

We aim to send it the same business day. If your insurer has to agree first, such as adding their name to the policy, it takes longer and we’ll tell you when to expect it.

Which policy?

The company, council or site, so the certificate is addressed right.
Your email, or theirs. We only send it where the policyholder tells us to.

Changing a policy? Adding a vehicle, a new site or more staff: call or email Declan. A change is in place once the insurer confirms it, and we’ll send you that in writing.

Getting cover

Tell us what the business does. We look at the risks with you and find cover that fits. Nothing is covered until an insurer accepts it and we confirm it in writing.

What we need for a quote

  • What the business does, and where
  • The insurance you have now, if any
  • When it renews
  • Any claims in recent years

No documents yet. Once we’ve talked, we send a secure link for your schedule and claims history.

What we insure

For builders, electricians, plumbers and mechanics:

  • Public and products liabilityIf your work hurts someone or damages their property. Sites often ask to see it before you start.
  • Tools and equipmentPortable tools and gear, on site, in the ute or in the shed.
  • VehiclesUtes and vans, insured for the work they actually do.

What a policy covers, and what it leaves out, is in its wording. We go through the exclusions with you before you buy, not after a claim.

The premium, and how we’re paid

Two different things, so we keep them apart on the page and on your invoice.

The premiumPaid to the insurer

The insurer’s price for the cover
Set by the insurer for your business and the cover you choose. We compare and negotiate, but it’s their price.
Government taxes and charges
Added to the premium where they apply to that policy.

Our payPaid to Murray Wren

Commission
The insurer pays us a share of the premium for arranging and looking after your policy. You don’t pay it separately.
Broker fee, on some policies
Our own fee for the work. We tell you the amount before it applies, and it’s a separate line on your invoice.
Paying monthlySome insurers take monthly instalments. Otherwise there’s premium funding: a finance company pays the premium and you repay it monthly, with interest and its own terms. We show you the total cost before you choose.
If you cancel partway throughAny premium refund depends on the insurer’s terms, and our broker fee isn’t refunded. We say so before you pay, not after.

Questions we get a lot

Do you compare every insurer?

No. We work with a panel of insurers, not every insurer, and when we come back with options we tell you which ones we asked.

How quickly can cover start?

When the insurer accepts it and we confirm it to you in writing. For a bigger or unusual risk the insurer may want more information first. We won’t tell you you’re covered until you are.

I’ve had claims, or been knocked back online.

Tell us anyway. It changes which insurers we approach and what they’ll ask. We can’t promise an insurer will say yes, but we’ll tell you straight.

Can I move to you before my renewal?

Yes. The earlier before it renews, the more time there is to compare.

How are you paid?

By commission from the insurer, and on some policies a broker fee we tell you about before it applies. The premium and our pay sets it out.

How do I make a complaint?

Tell Rosa by phone, email or letter, whichever is easiest. It’s free, and we can write it down for you. If we can’t put it right, you can take it to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority. Our complaints policy has the details.

Not sure where to start?

Ring us. If it’s a claim, Shona picks it up. If it’s cover, Rosa or Declan.
