not in here? phraseDescribe it in your own words. If it isn’t work we do, we’ll say so on the phone and suggest where to go. (02) 5550 0532

first appointmentnoun

Thirty minutes with a solicitor. You leave knowing where you stand.

$22030 minutesincluding GST, the same whichever way we meet
  1. Who you meet

Claire or Anjali, whichever of them does your kind of work. Both are solicitors.

  2. What you leave with

Advice on where you stand and what your options are, what the next step would cost, and an email afterwards summing up what we said.

  3. What it doesn’t cover

Reading long documents before we meet, or any work afterwards. If you go ahead, that’s quoted in writing first.

  4. Before we book it

We run the conflict check, so we’ll ask for the names of anyone else involved.

Only want to know if we do your kind of work? Ask Deb on (02) 5550 0532. That call costs nothing.

conflict checknoun

Making sure we’ve never acted for the other side, before we act for you.

It’s why every matter starts in this order, and why an enquiry isn’t us agreeing to act.

  1. You get in touch

Your name, a phone number, a line about what it’s about, and the names of anyone else involved. No documents yet.

  2. We run the conflict check

Every name goes against our records. If we can’t act, we tell you straight away. We won’t say why, because that’s someone else’s confidence.

  3. Scope and costs, in writing

What we’ll do, what we won’t, and what it should cost. Nothing starts until you’ve read it and signed.

  4. Then we act for you

From here you’re our client, and we get on with it.

Until you sign step 3, we’re not your lawyers yet.

A booking, a form or an email doesn’t change that, so don’t let a deadline ride on one. Call instead.

costsplural noun

What you pay us, and what others charge along the way. Written down first.

Fixed fees

Fixed, quoted first

Estimated in writing

Every price on this page includes GST.

Money you pay before the work is done goes into our trust account, not our office account.

deadlinenoun

A web enquiry or an email won’t protect a deadline, and nobody reads them outside reception hours.

What people ask first

Do you handle my kind of problem?

If it’s in the dictionary above and it’s in NSW, probably. Call and describe it in your own words. If it isn’t work we do, we’ll say so and suggest where to go.

Once I send the form, are you acting for me?

No. First we run the conflict check, then we send our scope and costs in writing. We’re acting for you once you’ve signed that, not before.

Is what I tell you confidential?

Yes, even before you’re a client. Keep the first enquiry short anyway: names and a line about the problem are all we need to start.

What should I bring?

Any papers about it: the contract, lease, letter, invoice or will. For some work we also need to see photo ID, and we’ll tell you when we book. Please don’t email documents until we’ve confirmed we can act.

Can I book for my mum or dad?

Yes, and you’re welcome to come along. The advice and the decisions are theirs, though, so Claire will speak with them on their own for part of it.

Can I meet by video, or bring someone?

Yes to both. Phone, video or at Market Lane, for the same fee. A support person is welcome, though we may ask for a few minutes with you alone.

Do you do legal aid work?

No. If you think you might be eligible, Legal Aid NSW can tell you more.

enquirynoun

  1. Your name, a number, a line about what it’s about, and who else is involved.

  2. Not the same as us agreeing to act. We confirm that in writing.
