What would you like to talk about?

What people come to see Alex about

Most first appointments start with one of these. None comes with a promise of a result. Each starts with a long conversation and a plan you agree to.

No. 01

Digestion

Bloating, reflux, irregular bowels, or reactions to food you can’t pin down.

Alex goes through what you eat and when, how you sleep, stress, your medicines and supplements, and any results you already have. If anything you describe needs a medical check first, Alex will say so and suggest you see your GP before going further.

No. 02

Sleep and energy

Waking at three in the morning, dragging through the afternoon, tired however long you sleep.

Alex asks about your days as well as your nights: work, meals, movement, caffeine, and what’s already been checked. Bring recent blood test results if you have them. If tiredness hasn’t been looked at by your GP, Alex may suggest that first.

No. 03

Hormones and perimenopause

Painful or irregular periods, a cycle that’s changed, hot flushes, sleep that shifted in your forties.

Alex talks through food, sleep, stress, and any herbs or supplements you already take, and how they sit alongside the medicines or hormone therapy your doctor prescribes.

What Alex doesn’t do

  • See children. Appointments are for adults, 18 and over.
  • Urgent care. This is an appointments-only practice. In an emergency, call 000.
  • Promise a cure. You’ll hear what’s realistic, and when it’s time to try something else.

Alongside your GP, never instead

Naturopathy sits next to the rest of your care. Here’s how that works in practice.

  • Keep seeing your doctorAlex works alongside GPs and specialists, and will suggest you see yours whenever something needs a medical check.
  • Keep taking your medicinesAlex never asks anyone to stop or change a prescribed medicine. That’s a conversation for you and your prescriber.
  • Everything you take is written downYour medicines and supplements are recorded at the first appointment and checked before anything new is suggested.
  • Your GP hears from us only if you agreeWith your written consent, Alex can send your GP a short letter about the plan. Without it, nothing is shared.

Alex sees adults, here and online. Most of an appointment is listening: what’s going on, what you’ve tried, what your doctor has said. Then a short written plan you can actually keep to.

Nell Brannigan, practice coordinatorNell answers the phone, books appointments, sends forms and takes payments. Nell doesn’t give health advice, so health questions go to Alex.

Your first appointment

Sixty minutes, in the front room or by video. $180.

  1. A form, before you come

Nell emails a secure intake form: your health history, medicines and supplements. Fill in what you can; the rest gets covered in the room.

  2. You talk, Alex listens

What’s going on, in your own words. What you’ve tried, and what your GP has said.

  3. The wider picture

Food, sleep, energy, stress, your cycle if it’s relevant, and everything you take.

  4. A plan you agree to

A short written plan by email afterwards. Any herbs, supplements or tests come as suggestions with prices, and you decide.

  5. A follow-up, if it’s useful

Booked to review what you’ve changed, not on a fixed schedule.

What to bring

  • A list of your medicines and supplements, or the packets
  • Recent test results and letters, if you have them
  • Your questions, written down if that helps

Herbs, tests and postage: quoted first

They’re separate from the consultation fee. If Alex suggests a herbal mix, a supplement or a test, you get the price before anything is made up, ordered or posted, and you can say no.

Health funds, Medicare and the NDIS

Health funds can cover naturopathy, but whether you can claim depends on your policy, so check with your fund before you book. You’ll get an itemised receipt to claim with.

Medicare doesn’t cover naturopathy, and NDIS plans don’t fund it.

Questions people ask

What happens at the first appointment?

It’s 60 minutes. You fill in a secure intake form beforehand, then talk through what’s going on, your history, food, sleep, medicines and supplements. Alex doesn’t do physical examinations; anything that needs examining goes to your GP. You get a short written plan by email afterwards, and decide together whether a follow-up is useful.

What will I pay altogether?

$180 for the first consultation, with no booking fee. That’s all, unless you choose to buy something: herbs, supplements, tests and postage are quoted separately before they’re added, and you can say no.

Can I claim a rebate?

Possibly, through private health insurance. Naturopathy can be covered by health funds, but it depends on your policy, so ask your fund before you book, including whether it covers online consults. Medicare doesn’t cover naturopathy, and the NDIS doesn’t fund it.

Can I attend online?

Yes, from anywhere in Australia. You need a phone, tablet or laptop with a camera, and somewhere private. The link comes by email, and times are in Victorian time. If something needs to be seen in person, Alex will say so.

Can I keep taking my prescribed medicines?

Yes. Alex never asks anyone to stop or change a prescribed medicine. Bring a list of everything you take, including supplements, so anything Alex suggests can be checked against it. Questions about your medicines go to your prescriber.

Should I bring test results, or get new tests?

Bring recent results and letters if you have them; you can upload them securely with the intake form. Alex suggests a new test only when there’s a clear reason, tells you what it costs and what it can’t show, and leaves the choice to you.

How many appointments will I need?

There’s no set number. After the first appointment you agree on what to try and when it’s worth reviewing. If things aren’t changing, the plan changes, or Alex suggests other help.

How do I cancel, or ask something between visits?

Call or email Nell at least a day ahead to move or cancel. Questions between visits can go by email and are answered in opening hours, Tuesday to Friday. This isn’t an urgent-care service: in an emergency, call 000.

Do you see children?

No. Alex sees adults, 18 and over.
