Recent jobs

Photographed in side light, because that’s where plastering shows.

Before: a bedroom ceiling corner with a brown water stain, bubbled paint and a crack along a joint.
After: the same corner with new plasterboard and cove cornice, painted, with no sign of the repair.

Bedroom ceiling after a roof leak, Engadine. The roofer fixed the leak first. We cut out the wet board, hung new sheet, set three coats and ran new cove cornice on that side.

How a job runs

A coat at a time. Most rooms take three or four short visits over a week.

  1. Photos, then a fixed price

Send photos of the damage. Kate replies within one working day with a price, or a time for Declan to come and look. Quotes are free either way.

  2. Covered up, cut out, hung

Floors and furniture under drop sheets, doorways taped. We take out what’s damaged and hang new board. You can use the house around us.

  3. Three coats, sanded, swept

One coat a day so each one dries. We sand with dust-extracting sanders and vacuum before we leave each day. Paint it about a week later.

Who paints? You or your painter. We hand over a Level 4 finish, the usual for homes, or Level 5 where light rakes across a wall or the paint is dark or glossy.

Water damage, in the right order

A plasterer finishes a water job. Here’s where we come in.

  1. The leak is fixedA plumber or roofer stops the water first.
  2. The insurer has a lookIf you’re claiming, call them early and take photos.
  3. We replace the wet boardBoard that’s been soaked comes out and new goes in. Patching it doesn’t last. We send photos and an itemised quote for your insurer.
  4. Three coats, then the painterAbout a week after the last coat.

Water still coming through? Call a plumber or roofer. For storm damage, call NSW SES on 132 500.

What recent jobs cost

Every price is the total we charged, including GST. Yours depends on your photos, and the quote is free.

Included every time: drop sheets, daily clean-up and taking the rubbish away.

Not included: painting, and scaffold for render, which we quote separately if it’s needed.

Bigger jobs get a written contract with our licence number on it, as NSW law requires, and any deposit stays within the legal limit.

Questions

Can you fix a water stain without replacing the ceiling?

Sometimes. Once the leak is fixed, board that only got damp can dry, get checked and be stain-sealed. Board that was soaked, sagging or crumbling gets replaced. Send a photo and we’ll tell you which.

My ceiling is sagging. What should I do?

Keep people out from under it and send us a photo. We’ll tell you whether it needs a visit today or this week.

How much will it cost?

Repairs are quoted from photos as one fixed price. Whole ceilings and new walls are priced by the room. Quotes are free. Painting isn’t included.

How long does it take?

Most rooms take three or four short visits: one to hang, then a coat a day, then sanding. Leave it about a week before painting.

Will there be dust?

Some, which is why everything goes under drop sheets, doorways get taped and we sand with dust-extracting sanders. We vacuum before we leave every day.

Can you match my old cornice?

Most plain cove profiles, yes, from stock. For decorative cornice in older houses we run a new length to match. Send a close photo and we’ll tell you honestly how close we can get.

Do you do insurance work?

Yes. We send photos and an itemised quote your insurer can assess. Who pays and who chooses the trade depends on your policy, so check with them first.
