Enquiry to first day
Six steps, and you always know which one you’re on.
Most families take a term or two from first call to first day. Huong Tran, our enrolments officer, walks you through each step.
Enquire
Call, email or book a tour below. Tell us your child’s age and the year they’d start.
We send the enrolment policy, the fees and what each year has room for.
Tour
Walk the grounds on a school morning, about 45 minutes. Bring your child if you like.
You see classes running and ask anything. A tour commits you to nothing.
Apply
Fill in the application form we give you after the tour. There’s no application fee.
We add your child to the list for their year, in the order our enrolment policy sets.
An application isn’t a place. Nor is a spot on a waitlist.
Meet us
You and your child meet Anita for a relaxed half hour. Bring recent school reports if your child has any.
We talk about how your child learns and any support they might need, so we can plan for it.
Offer
Read our written offer of a place, with the start date and the fees.
We only offer a place when the year has room for your child.
Accept
Sign and return the acceptance. Your child’s place is confirmed when we receive it.
We send the uniform list, the class teacher’s name and a date for an orientation morning.
First day
Gates open at 8.20am. Come into the classroom and settle in together.
Which years have room
Room, or a waitlist, by year.
One class in each year, about 22 children in each. Tap a year to book a tour for it.
How the waitlist works. When a year is full you can still tour and apply. Your child goes on that year’s waitlist in the order our enrolment policy sets: brothers and sisters of current students first, then the date we received the application. When a place comes up, we call the next family. Being on the waitlist doesn’t promise a place.
A day at school
What a day in Year 3 looks like.
We teach the Australian Curriculum. Mornings are for reading, writing and maths while children are fresh; afternoons are for projects, science and the specialist lessons.
- Gates and classrooms open. Children read quietly until the bell.
- Reading and writing, in small groups at the table.
- Morning tea, then outside on the oval and in the bush garden.
- Maths, with hands-on materials before pencil and paper.
- Lunch, eaten together, then play.
- Science, history or a specialist lesson.
- Home time. Teachers stay at the gate until every child is collected.
Specialist lessons, every week
- Music
- Japanese
- Physical education
- Visual art
- Library

Every teacher at Lorikeet Hill is registered with the Queensland College of Teachers. Staff and volunteers who aren’t teachers are screened as Queensland law requires before they work with children.
Policies you can find
Child safety first, and every policy public.
You don’t need a login to read these.
Worried about a child?
Tell Anita Rao, our principal, in person or on (07) 5550 0618. If it’s about Anita, contact the chair of the school board at board@lorikeethill.example. Children can tell any adult at school they trust, and we’ll listen.
We collect what we need to enrol and teach your child, and nothing more. The tour form below asks only for your name and how to reach you. We ask for reports and health details later, through the application, and we keep them secure. We never post a photo of a child without the family’s written permission.
Questions families ask
Can my child come on the tour?
Yes, please bring them. They can sit in on a class for a few minutes while you talk with Anita.
Is there before and after school care?
Yes, on site from 6.30am and until 6pm, run by a separate care provider. You book and pay through them, and we’ll give you their details.
What if my child needs learning support?
Tell us at the tour or when you meet Anita. We’ll talk about what your child needs and what we can put in place, and plan it with you before they start.
Is Lorikeet Hill a religious school?
No. We’re an independent, non-denominational school, and families of every faith and none are welcome.
What do children wear?
A school uniform, sun-safe hat included. The list comes with your acceptance pack, and the second-hand rack is outside the office.
