What people say on Google
164 Google reviews
Got 3 quotes. Shane’s was the only one with photos of the whole roof and he told us restoring would do, didn’t need replacing. Not the cheapest but roof looks brand new and they cleaned up every bit.
New gutters front and side. Turned up when they said, done in a day, Lauren emailed the warranty the same week. Would use again.
Repair, restore or replace?
Most roofs don’t need replacing. The inspection photos show which of these yours needs, and we’ll tell you if it’s the cheaper one.
Repair the part that’s failed
For a leak, a few broken tiles, a rusted flashing or one bad valley on a roof that’s otherwise sound.
- When it makes sense
- The rest of the roof has years left in it.
- How long it takes
- Usually a few hours, often the same visit as the inspection.
- How it’s priced
- A written price for the repair after we’ve seen it, before we start.
Restore a tile roof
Clean, replace broken tiles, re-bed and re-point the ridges, then coat. For concrete and terracotta tiles whose battens are still good.
- When it makes sense
- Tiles are weathered and ridges are cracking, but the frame and battens are sound.
- How long it takes
- Three to five days for most houses, weather allowing.
- How it’s priced
- A fixed written quote, from the roof’s area, pitch and what it needs.
Replace with a new metal roof
Tile to steel, or old iron to new steel, with new battens, sarking, flashings and ridge capping.
- When it makes sense
- Sheets are rusted through, battens are broken, or the tiles have had too many repairs.
- How long it takes
- Four to six days for an average house, watertight every night.
- How it’s priced
- A fixed written quote, from the measured area, pitch and access.
Fibro roof, or a house built before 1990? It may be asbestos cement. We never pressure clean or restore one. A licensed asbestos removalist takes it off, then we put the new roof on.
How a job runs
- We look before we quote
Shane goes up, harnessed, and photographs the roof from the ridge to the gutters. You see what he saw.
- A written quote, left with you
Emailed within two business days, with the photos. Take your time. We never ask you to sign on the doorstep.
- The work, done safely
Scaffold or edge protection at the eaves, harnesses on, and the roof watertight every night. We stop for rain or strong wind: that’s a safety rule, not a delay.
- Photos, then the warranty
You get photos of the finished roof and the warranty in writing before we send the final invoice.
What it costs
Prices include GST. Every job gets a written price before we start.

Questions
My roof is leaking now. What do I do?
Move anything valuable, put a bucket under the drip, and if water is near a light fitting, switch that circuit off at the switchboard. Then call the make-safe line on (02) 5550 0185.
A make-safe visit is $395 including GST. Your insurer may also arrange emergency work, so it’s worth calling them too.
Should I restore or replace my roof?
If the tiles and battens are sound, a restoration (clean, re-bed, re-point, coat) is usually the better value. Rusted-through sheets, broken battens or a roof that’s been patched too often point to replacing it. The inspection photos show which, and we’ll say so plainly.
Can you work on an asbestos roof?
Fibro roofs on homes built before 1990 can be asbestos cement. High-pressure cleaning asbestos is illegal everywhere in Australia, so we never do it. Removing more than 10 square metres needs a licensed removalist. We bring in a licensed removalist to take the old roof off, then we put the new one on.
Do you quote for insurance claims?
Yes. We give you an itemised quote with photos and meet your assessor on site. Your insurer may use its own repairer or offer cash instead; where your policy allows, the choice of repairer is yours.
What warranty do I get?
Seven years on our workmanship for new roofs and gutters, five years on restorations, in writing. The steel and coating makers’ warranties are theirs, on their terms. NSW statutory warranties apply on top: six years for major defects and two for other defects.
Are you licensed and insured?
Hipboard Roofing Pty Ltd holds NSW contractor licence Lic. 555064C for roof plumbing, with $20 million public liability insurance. Home jobs of more than $20,000 get home building compensation cover before any deposit.
Do you door-knock after storms?
No. Be careful with anyone who does. If you sign an agreement at the door that you didn’t invite, you have 10 business days to cancel, and no work or payment can happen in that time.
How long does a new roof take, and what if it rains?
Four to six days for an average house. We only strip what we can cover the same day, so the roof is watertight every night. If rain or wind comes in, we stop and cover up: working on a wet roof isn’t safe.
Send us a photo of the roof.
From the ground or of the ceiling stain is fine. You’ll hear back the same business day, and get a written quote after the inspection.
