How long a referral lasts
From your GP: 12 months, counted from your first appointment with Dr Oduya, not from the date it was written. Your GP can write a longer or indefinite period.
From another specialist: 3 months. A new heart problem may need a new referral. If yours is running out before a review, we’ll remind you.
What Dr Oduya sees
Adults 18 and over, referred by a GP or another specialist.
- Palpitations and an irregular heartbeat
- High blood pressure and your heart risk
- Breathlessness, and known heart valve problems
- Ongoing care for heart failure
- Second opinions, with your earlier results
- Follow-ups, by video when it suits
Not here: children, and emergencies. If you need a procedure or a hospital stay, that happens at the hospital, not the rooms.

What it costs
You pay the full fee on the day, then Medicare pays part of it back to you, as long as your referral is valid.
First consultation
Your first visit with Dr Oduya
- Fee
- $350
Medicare pays part of this back when your referral is valid. Anna tells you the current amount when she books you in.
Review consultation
Each visit after the first
- Fee
- $180
Medicare pays part of this back too, on the same referral. It pays less for a review than for a first visit.
- Private health insurance doesn’t pay for consultations in the rooms.Insurers can’t cover out-of-hospital Medicare services. Hospital is different: see below.
- The Medicare benefit needs a valid referral, and depends on the kind of visit and your circumstances. Anna checks before your visit.
- Tests have their own fee. We tell you before you book one.
- Medicare Safety Nets may lower your out-of-hospital costs. How they work.
- DVA Veteran Card? Ask us before your visit, and we’ll check your entitlement and referral with you.
- Want it in writing? Ask Anna for an estimate.
Where you’re seen
Two different places, with different bills. Consultations and tests are always at the rooms.

The red-brick house on Through Road
14 Through Road, Camberwell VIC 3124
- Parking: two-hour parking in the street, and one accessible space in the driveway. Ask Anna to keep it for you.
- Getting in: a ramp along the side path to a step-free door. All the rooms are on one level.
- Bring: the things on the list below.
Tallowmere Private Hospital
6 Tallowmere Lane, Camberwell VIC 3124
- Parking: the hospital’s own car park, entered from Tallowmere Lane.
- Bring: the admission letter we send you, your medicines in their boxes, and your Medicare and health fund cards.
The bill is different in hospital. Dr Oduya, the hospital and others, such as an anaesthetist, can each charge, and your hospital cover works differently from the rooms. We give you a written estimate before you go in.
Before your first visit
Tick things off as you pack. This list stays ticked on your phone.
Nothing ticked yet.
- Bring someone. A partner, family member or carer is welcome in the room.
- Need an interpreter? Tell Anna when she calls and we’ll book one.
- Video follow-ups. Your first visit is in person. Some reviews can be by video, when Dr Oduya thinks it suits.

Questions people ask Anna
Do I need a referral?
Yes, for a new appointment: from your GP or another specialist. The Medicare benefit for a specialist visit depends on a valid referral too.
What happens after my referral arrives?
Dr Oduya reads it and decides how soon you need to be seen. Anna calls you within two working days of it arriving, with a time and the fee.
Will my private health insurance pay?
Not for consultations in the rooms: insurers can’t cover out-of-hospital Medicare services. If you need hospital treatment, your hospital cover comes into it, and we give you a written estimate first.
DVA Veteran Card holders: ask us before your visit so we can check your entitlement.
Will I have a heart test that day?
Maybe not. Tests are booked when Dr Oduya asks for them, may be on another day, and have their own fee. We’ll tell you how to prepare and what it costs.
Can I have a video appointment?
Your first visit is in person. Some reviews can be by video if Dr Oduya thinks it suits; the fee and Medicare benefit for video can differ, and Anna will tell you before.
How do I get my results?
Dr Oduya reviews every test done here and writes to your GP. If something needs to happen sooner, we call you. If you’re worried while you wait, call Anna. If it’s an emergency, call 000.
Do I need a new referral for a review?
Only if yours has run out, or for a new problem. A GP referral lasts 12 months from your first visit; one from a specialist lasts 3 months. We’ll remind you if it’s close.
How do I change or cancel?
Call Anna on (03) 5550 0388 as early as you can, so someone else waiting can have the time.
