Priya S.Kellyville, bathroom and ensuite
Emre and Jai redid our main bathroom and ensuite. Turned up when they said and sent us photos of the waterproofing before tiling which I didnt expect. Lines around the niche are perfect.
Wall and floor tiler, Schofields
Emre Aydin, NSW contractor licence 555044C. Wall and floor tiling; waterproofing.
Close up, because that’s where tiling is judged: the joints, the cuts and the corners.
Set out from the sliding door, so the long joints run square to it and the doorway starts on full tiles.
The shower niche sits on whole tiles, with no slivers around it.
Laid with a fall away from the house, so rain runs to the garden.
Cut tight around the power point, and the return wall picks up the same joint.
In this order, every time. The plumb walls and the fall to the waste are where our name comes from.
We measure, look at what we can see behind the old tiles, and send one total in writing with the dates your shower is out of use.
In homes built before 1990 we check for asbestos first. If it’s there, a licensed removalist takes it out before we start. Then the old tiles and bed come out, and leave in our trailer.
A new sand and cement bed, shaped so every part of the shower floor runs to the waste.
Two coats of membrane, a bond breaker at every corner, then it cures. We photograph it before it’s covered. More on this below.
Chalk line and centre marks first, so the cuts land where you won’t notice them.

Grout, silicone to the corners and the screen, a proper clean, and the waterproofing certificate in your inbox.
Your shower is out of use from the strip-out until the silicone has cured. The dates are in your quote, because cure times depend on the products we use.
We price by the square metre, and quote every job as one total, in writing, after a free measure. Rates include GST.
Tiles up to × , straight lay.
Longest side over 600 mm, or any pattern lay.
Walls or floor, rubbish included.
Floor and walls, bond breakers, photos and the certificate.
A 6 m² laundry floor. Old tiles out, your own × porcelain down.
Buying your own tiles? We tell you how many boxes after the measure, and check batch numbers and shade before we lay.
The measure and quote are free, with no travel fee in the suburbs we cover.
The membrane under the tiles decides whether a shower lasts. It’s covered by the end of the job, so here’s what you get to keep.
You’re letting us into your house for days. This is who turns up.
Owner. Licensed tiler and waterproofer, on every job himself.
Licence and insurance
Jobs over $5,000 get a written contract. Over $20,000, the Home Building Compensation Fund certificate comes before any deposit.
NSW law gives your work statutory warranties: 6 years for major defects, and waterproofing counts as one, and 2 years for other defects.
You can check any NSW licence on the NSW Government licence check.

Daniel M.Quakers Hill, leaking shower
Shower was leaking into the hallway carpet. He came out and told us straight it was the membrane not the grout so a regrout wouldnt fix it. Dearer than the regrout quote we had but its actually fixed.
Mel T.The Ponds, living room floor
Big tiles through the whole downstairs. Took a couple of days longer than planned, he did warn us the old floor might need levelling. Looks great and they vacuumed every afternoon.
We subcontract across the north west. Ask for our square metre schedule, and our licence and insurance certificates come the same day.
Email EmreBased in Schofields. Free measures in all of these.
Further out? Send the photos anyway. For a full bathroom we often travel.
$85 to lay standard tiles and $110 for large format or herringbone, including GST, with adhesive, grout, silicone and clean-up in the rate. Removal, screeding and waterproofing are priced on top. Every job is quoted as one total after we measure.
Yes. Emre applies it himself under the waterproofing category of his licence, to the National Construction Code and AS 3740. You get photos of each coat and a signed certificate naming the membrane.
Sometimes. If the grout and silicone have failed but the membrane is sound, a regrout and reseal can be enough. If water is getting through the membrane, regrouting only hides it for a while. Send photos of the shower and of where the water shows up, and we’ll tell you which it looks like before we come out.
On a sound, flat floor outside the shower, sometimes. In a shower or wet area we strip back, because the waterproofing underneath has to be checked and redone.
From the strip-out until the silicone has cured. Membrane, adhesive and grout each need time to cure, and that depends on the products, so we give you the dates in writing with the quote.
Homes built before 1990 can have asbestos sheeting behind the wall tiles or in old vinyl floors. We check before anything comes off the wall. If it’s there, a licensed removalist takes it out first.
Yes, most people do. After the measure we tell you how many boxes to buy, with a little over for cuts, and we check the batch numbers and shade before we start laying.
